DH&G

established in 1903

Our big house was finished in 1903 by Senator Alfred J. Doherty and has stayed in the family since. It’s full of the authentic architectural design features reflective of commitment to artistry and quality that stands the test of time. It has a few quirks and loads of style and personality—and has been filled with 5 generations of love, laughs, and celebrated events. We are the latest caretakers of the house, thrilled to call it our home, and want to continue the traditions of hospitality that have defined the space,

We are proud to offer our warm and welcoming big house to your family and friends to call home for a short time.

We look forward to your visit.

“If you have ever visited Downtown Clare you know it has a charm all its own,” said State Rep. Joel Johnson, R-Clare. The earliest buildings constructed in this district are three former residences, all framed with wood and designed using local materials available at that time.

AJ Doherty was one of Clare’s most distinguished and best known, citizens—and “the man who perhaps contributed more to the physical and material progress of the city than any other person who has ever resided in Clare”.
